Government to save wine sector from crisis

02.12.2009 19:44

Winemaking and grape growing is a very important sector of the national economy and the Government together with winemakers will find solutions for unblocking the situation, in which the sector found itself, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said at a meeting with business people.

According to the governmental press service, participants in the meeting designated big reserves of alcoholic products, absence of sales market and debts to banks as their main problems.

Filat reminded that the Government already took some measures for alleviating the situation, in particular, it cancelled the use of trademarks in the wine exports, it allowed the wine and distillate exports in bulk.

In his words, a Moldovan expert delegation is currently in Moscow and on Thursday Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc has joined them. They have a plan of meeting with the RosPotrebNadzor administration to discuss the possibility of the final removal of all the barriers to the exports of Moldovan alcohol products to the Russian market.

As of October , the arrears of Moldovan winemaking enterprises were valued at 1.3 billion lei and the reserves of alcohol products constituted 220 million liters.
